Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
