The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a challenge for long-term couples who are fans of scary movies: Sit down with your significant other and watch Together. The independent film success of 2025 has now made its streaming debut on Hulu. On the surface, it could look like standard body horror, but beneath Together exists a deep examination about the ways we decide to love one another.

An Introductory Film Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together marks the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for over ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the actors bring a unique chemistry to their characters, masterfully depicting both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The story starts when Millie and Tim move from the big city to the country for Millie’s job. A familiar plot device, of course, but that’s mostly where the tropes cease. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their new home, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim tumble into an underground cave. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a strange force takes hold of the couple. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a gradually intensifying horror experience, interspersing moments of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes amidst something horrific). Michael Shanks weaves these elements together neatly and presents them in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Nuanced Portrayals

A significant portion of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and removed from his support system. He is terrified of the notion of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in Together refrains from painting Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Both characters confront the kind of problems that arise in any relationship after ten years. Deep down, they still love each other. They share moments of joy, offer support, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these anxieties of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the allegory never feels overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own response could act as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your other half and state, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform now.
