Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the group access places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Questers and Planners groups.
