TikTok Grants The Community Power to Limit AI-Generated Media in Their Feeds

The platform is rolling out a fresh option that allows them to lessen the amount of artificial intelligence-produced videos appearing in their feeds. This step comes as the platform disclosed that it now features more than 1 billion AI videos.

Trial and Implementation

This change is undergoing trials over the next few weeks before a full-scale launch. This development coincides with a surge in content created by AI, spurred by emerging AI video creators.

AI Content on Other Platforms

It has been noted that nearly a tenth of the fastest-growing channels on a popular video site primarily display clips produced artificially. A significant portion of this output is classified as low-quality AI content, a label for substandard, bulk-generated content that is often absurd or bizarre.

“We know from our community that numerous viewers like content made with AI tools, including computer-generated images to educational videos, and we want to offer the community the power to adjust the amount of that, based on their own preferences,” commented a platform representative.

AI on the Platform

The service shared that there are currently 1.3 billion videos on its app tagged as made with AI. Collectively, over 100 m pieces of content are uploaded to the platform daily, making AI-generated material a minor part of its complete catalog.

User Control Features

Viewers will be in a position to decrease or raise the volume of AI-generated videos they see by accessing the content preference setting in the platform and picking the AI content topic. Other topics that currently be adjusted under the tool encompass news, fashion, beauty, and choreography.

Platform Guidelines

Its guidelines require creators to tag lifelike AI-made content, and it forbids malicious fake videos of public figures or emergencies. Any authentic-looking AI video that is without a tag can be taken down under its community policies.

In addition, the service will henceforth attach an artificially created watermark to content created with its built-in AI features, or detected by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing content made by AI. This measure is designed to help prevent users from trying to evade the disclosure requirement.

Responsible AI Funding

The platform is also establishing a two million dollar educational fund for professionals and institutions to create educational content about using AI responsibly. This initiative will support educational bodies focused on teaching coding and technology.

Platform Protection

The video-sharing app has supported its moderation strategy, following debate over plans to lay off numerous safety staff in the United Kingdom. The company is expected to reduce a significant number of roles in its user protection team in the UK capital, with labor groups and online safety experts voicing alarm that staff are being displaced by AI moderation.

A trust and safety lead clarified that human moderation would remain essential, but automated tools can protect employees by filtering out the most harmful content ahead of it is viewed by staff. The platform announced a notable drop in disturbing and violent content handled by human moderators over the last 12 months due to intervention by its machine learning processes.

“We think that it’s essential to balance people and machines to maintain a secure environment,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as part of that process, but we further consider it’s very important to minimize viewing of harmful content as quickly as possible, which is why a extensive automated help is making a difference process content quickly.”
